While I believe we are entering an age of shorter attention spans and portable libraries, I see no reason to believe good writers will go out of style. Instead, they merely face a few challenges. The fight for marriage equality has resorted to angry, irrational screams, each crowd demanding to be heard. No revolution has been fought without a bit of rage, however. If we need this social reform now (and I believe we do), I would promote a war of the minds, civilized protests, and anger, because the rhetoric that is born from passion speaks many volumes louder than the man in the street encouraging civil, rational discussion.
