Who is Aesop?

Just call me Chris. It’s my real name.
I’m a 25-year-old college graduate (Associate of Arts) working to become a published and paid author. I like to write essays and articles but hope to someday accomplish my lifelong goal of publishing a serious work of fiction.
I support printed books and buy from local book stores. I own (and love) a Kindle Fire HD 7″, but I will never fully abandon my old, yellowing, crinkling pages in favor of ageless data.

Questions, suggestions, or personal criticisms? Just want to chat?

Read the Printed Word!
FAVORITE BOOKS

  • “The Martian Chronicles” by Ray Bradbury (mystifying story, haunting lesson, haunting mental images)
  • “East of Eden” and “Travels With Charlie in Search of America” by John Steinbeck (come on, it’s Steinbeck…)
  • “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee (I’ve read it three times.  I will read it again.)
  • “Down and Out in Paris and London” by George Orwell (a nice reminder that things have been worse before)
  • “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien (Best book I’ve read on war.  Moral of the story: don’t do war.)
  • “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris (Sedaris has a style that makes light of the heaviest subjects)

FAVORITE MOVIES

  • Up in the Air (“To know me you have to fly with me.”)
  • The Royal Tenenbaums (a storybook for adults, perfect casting, best suicide scene ever)
  • Bladerunner: Director’s Cut (the film is so much better without narration)
  • Oldboy (the English voices suck; watch it in Korean with subtitles)
  • 28 Days Later (less zombies, more humans being assholes; Danny Boyle got it right)
  • Sunshine (the sun is hot, madness is scary)
  • Synecdoche, NY (life in a play in a play in a play.  Most depressing movie ever?)
  • Anything by Stanley Kubrick (he never repeated himself, and his style is raw and powerful)

FAVORITE BANDS

  • The Airborne Toxic Event
  • Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos
  • The Arcade Fire
  • The Naked and Famous
  • Weezer (blue album, green album)
  • The Black Keys
  • Freightened Rabbit

FAVORITE GAMES

  • Bastion (“What do you say to a man who’s seen too much?”)
  • Bioshock Infinite (it discusses racism, corruption, and metaphysics; how can I not love it?)
  • Dark Souls (it keeps taunting me)
  • Diablo II (still addictive after 13 years)
  • Mass Effect series

OTHER HOBBIES

  • Photoshop, self-taught for ten years.
  • I love pasta.
